Hoodia

What is Hoodia ?
The heralded south African cactus featured on "60 Minutes", "The Today Show", and in Oprah's "O Magazine" is probably the new miracle supplement for safe, effective weight loss for everyone wanting to lose weight.Hoodia gordonii (Hoodia) is an all-natural appetite suppressant known for having no side effects or conflicts that are associated with other weight-loss products.

How Hoodia Works.
It essentially suppresses the appetite by tricking the brain into thinking that you're full when you're not: Scientists explain that the active ingredient in Hoodia works within the hypothalamus, the satiety center of the brain, by releasing a chemical compound similar to glucose, only much stronger. The hypothalamus receives this signal as an indication that enough food has been consumed and therefore suppresses the appetite.

AGE AND BEHAVIOR: CONTACT WITH THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT – TOUCH

The threshold of touch, like that of pain, varies with the part of the body stimulated. Perhaps even more than with pain, the "data are noticeably absent in the area of tactile sensitivity with age effects" (Corso, 1971). Birren (1964) concluded, "touch sensitivity remains unchanged from early adulthood through about age fifty to fifty five, with a rise in threshold thereafter."
This conclusion was based largely on experiments of stimulating different parts of the body with very fine bristle-like stimuli. More complex stimuli, however, also reflect decreased sensitivity with age. Thompson, Axelrod, and Cohen (1965) had subjects aged 18-34 years and 60-77 years palpate, without looking, a variety of differently shaped forms made of masonite. The task was to identify these forms with those represented on a visual display. The older group identified the forms less well than the young group, but this was attributed as much to deficits in searching the visual display as to deficits in touch sensation.
Another sensation that has been investigated is seen as closely aligned with touch—the ability to sense vibration. Weiss concluded that the clinical and experimental findings are in good agreement here: vibratory sensitivity diminishes with age. Again, the thresholds are very dependent upon the specific part of the body that is stimulated.
