Generic Zocor (Simvastatin, Zocor® equivalent)
Zocor (simvastatin) is used along with an overall diet plan in order to reduce high blood cholesterol levels. Zocor can significantly reduce the amount of LDL ("bad") cholesterol in the blood while simultaneously raising the levels of HDL-C ("good") cholesterol. AGE AND BEHAVIOR: PROCESSING SENSE INFORMATION - SEQUENTIAL INTEGRATION - CORRESPONDING STIMULUS HALVES
Letters of words were constructed from a series of dots. Half the dot-letters of a word were presented as a first stimulus and the other half as the second stimulus. In this way, rather than interfere with or mask the target stimulus, the second stimulus added a meaningful dimension to the first one by forming the whole word. Whereas in the masking studies stimulus persistence theory predicts greater masking on the part of the old, the theory in the word-half enhancement studies predicts greater word idfentification on the part of the old. The persistence of the first half of the word fuses with that of the last half.
Contrary to stimulus persistence theory, the young, not the old, showed higher word identification (Kline and Baffa, 1976). However, the investigators considered the fact that old people tend to have difficulty making sense of such poorly structured material as dot arrangements for words. Also, they thought that the lighted background on which the stimuli were presented may have carried over and reduced the visibility of the stimuli. Accordingly, the study was repeated, this time using straight white horizontal and vertical line segments on a black background, instead of black dots on a white background.
With the study redone in this way, the results were otherwise. With half the word given as the first stimulus and the other half as the second one, the older adults identified more total words than the young, in "strong support for the stimulus-persistence model . . ." (Kline and Orme-Rogers, 1977).
